MODEC

Risk management

Responsibilities: Instructional design.

Audience: Employees at various bases around the world.

Tools used: Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud, Octopus Framework, Studion.mx.

Client: MODEC.

Year: 2023.

SUMMARY

This e-learning course aims to bring a more innovative, interactive and engaging learning experience to MODEC employees and contractors, to raise awareness and fill knowledge gaps related to risk management.

As a reference instructional designer, I compiled all the raw content made available by the client, conducted interviews with experts, structured it and gave it volume, and then designed the experience.

The final solution was developed in e-learning with several educational, interactive resources, video, podcasts, gamification mechanics in a narrative that unifies the learner's entire journey.

A highlight was the creation of a 100% original and personalized feature for the solution, a radio that is always visible next to the screen, and plays when there is an audio to be heard, which provides guidance and information relevant to the journey of learning (see mockup in the image below).

PROCESS

ADDIE model

Analysis

When analyzing the audience, who were already familiar with simple and standardized training, carried out using authoring tools, considering the importance of the topic, and the pain described by the client, it became clear that it would be necessary to create a more engaging, dynamic learning experience with elements new.

Design

Together with the multidisciplinary team, we designed a symbolic narrative, with elements from the public's universe. Using gamification mechanics, leading the learner to create a profile to begin a journey to becoming an expert in risk management. The entire journey is accessed through a navigation menu, always available in the interface header, where the learner can access the different modules, released as they consume the content and carry out the activities.

At each stage, in dialogical language, in videos and podcasts, they are reminded that they need to understand the content presented, to then apply their knowledge in case study activities, solving problems related to risks within the organization.

Development and implementation

It was a long process of alignments, tests and validations, in which the team made sure that the final solution was available in the client's LMS without bugs and ready to be accessed by hundreds of apprentices.

Assessment

The assessments were designed to check knowledge, in different formats, to increase engagement and provide dynamism.

Based on the raw content, we create single and multiple choice, drag and drop activities, case studies and personalized feedback, all in interfaces developed especially for this solution.

RESULTS

It was a challenging project, considering the size of the organization, the level of quality required in a risk management project, the volume of content and the level of technical complexity.

The team overcame each stage with a lot of planning, continuous communication, instructional design methodologies and project management.

The end result was extraordinary and technically remarkable.
